Knowsley Council is developing an Expression of Interest for the UK Town of Culture 2028, with Prescot at its heart. As part of this process, a one-day pop-up community engagement event - Prescot ‘Our Story’, was held to capture the voices, memories and aspirations of those who live, work in and visit the town. Participants were invited to share what Prescot means to them, reflect on its cultural identity and heritage, and put forward their ideas for future cultural events and programming.

PLACED delivered a pop-up event at The ARC in Prescot. Alongside the event, postcards designed to capture people’s stories were shared with businesses. A total of 72 people shared their views on the day, with a further 28 businesses participating by sharing their views.

The engagement activity painted a vivid picture of a town with a strong sense of who it is and a clear ambition for what it could become. Participants reflected fondly on Prescot’s rich heritage and independent spirit, whilst expressing genuine enthusiasm for a future built around music, family activity, cultural events and the revival of much-loved spaces. Above all, it was the warmth and pride of Prescot’s community that came through most powerfully as a reminder that the town’s greatest asset has always been its people, and that the foundations for something truly special are already firmly in place. The findings from PLACED’s engagement event will support the council’s Expression of Interest for the UK Town of Culture 2028.
