Thanks to PLACED Ambassadors!

Ambassador in workshop

PLACED would like to thank our team of Ambassadors, which continues to grow with in excess of 60 fantastic volunteers now making up the team.

PLACED have been busy this year running 28 workshops days so far in 2012. This wouldn’t be possible without the vital help of our volunteer PLACED Ambassadors and PLACED Student Ambassadors who have given over 70 days of their time so far in 2012. Our team includes architects, interior architects, landscape architects, urban designers and engineers as well as many university students. We believe it is this diversity of skills that makes us unique.

We are very proud of the hard work our Ambassador network put into making our sessions a success and would like to say a massive thanks to all who are helping us reach young people across the region.

We’ve had some great feedback from our team as well. Recently we ran a series of design workshops at Ellesmere Port Catholic High School, working with 180 students over 3 days to design a series of tourist redevelopments along the Wirral peninsula. PLACED Ambassador Kate, said of her experience ”The workshops were a great way to engage pupils in a very hands-on project, which resulted in some extremely creative ideas for the site.  What I found most rewarding was the way in which groups were able to develop their ideas and work together.”

We hope that through participating in school workshops, our Ambassadors will learn as much as the students do. By discussing design with younger people, volunteers will not only develop their communication skills, but also reflect on their own practices and positions.

PLACED Ambassador Martyn Jones said “I really enjoyed the past few days and it has certainly fueled my passion for architecture. I hope to attend more workshops in the near future.”

Our Student Ambassadors also tell us they get a great deal from taking part. Manchester Architecture Student Taniya Ittan said “I am extremely glad that I attended the PLACED Workshop. It was a highly enriching experience working with Year 8′s and discovering their ways of thinking and creativity. I’ve never worked with students of that age, so it was a learning experience for me!”

We’re always open to new people who would like to get involved. All we ask of you as an Ambassador or Student Ambassador is that you help out at two sessions per year. Many of our team have already done many more than this – a particular thanks to Ben Green, Ben Prince, Amanda Wanner, Graham Marshall, Andrew Connor and Kate Robinson who have gone well above this already this year.
