A selection of schools we have worked with

Teacher-and-students

The following are some of the schools that have taken part in PLACED activities in recent months.

Archbishop Blanch

In January 2012, PLACED delivered a Tailor Made workshop for year 9 and year 8 students, introducing them to interior design. A range of fantastic ideas were developed for the reuse of an empty building, with year 9 focusing on restaurant design and year 8 developing ideas ranging from a beauty salon to museum. For both year groups, the session developed themes from previous lessons. This new workshop was a great success and has consequently been added to our pre-prepared programme. The workshop was delivered by PLACED Ambassador Christina Ter Horst.

Fulwood Academy

Pupils from Fulwood Academy participated in four workshops that use history and photography to explore the heritage of Preston. Focusing on the dock area, pupils are looking at redesigning the area to make it a more accessible and utilised part of the city. Pupils will be creating both a photograph installation and time capsules to display their ideas. The sessions are being delivered by 3rd year Architecture Students as part of the PLACED UCLan partnership project.

Ashton Community Science College

PLACED has been mentoring 3rd year UCLan Architecture students in the delivery of four workshops for pupils from Ashton College, where year 7-9 pupils have been focusing on the redesign of Winckley Square in Preston. Pupils undertook a site analysis before developing ideas for how the square could better meet the needs of current and future residents. Their design ideas will be taken to the school for a consultation event, when pupils and teacher will choose their favourite design proposal.

Moor Park School

Moor Park School is one of 5 schools participating in the PLACED UCLan partnership project. Supported by PLACED, 3rd year Architecture students have used the idea of stained glass windows and pavilions as the basis of the workshops with pupils developing a range of designs which celebrate not only the Preston Guild and the history of Preston but also the 100 year heritage of the school.

Penwortham Girls School

As part of our partnership with UCLan, PLACED has been supporting 3rd year UClan students in the development and delivery of four workshops for Gifted and Talented pupils from Penwortham Girls School. The workshops have seen students develop ideas for a series of installations around Preston Docks and have included learning about the history of the area, scale and proportion, design techniques and consideration of materials.

Priory School

In January, the first workshop for Preston schools as part of the UClan PLACED partnership project was delivered. 3rd year UClan students delivered a one day workshop for 20 year 9 pupils that included a city tour and encouraged pupils to think about how different spaces in Preston work for different groups of people. The students will deliver three more workshops for the pupils over the next two months.
